French Language and Literature
The bachelor’s degree program is offered as a major (A) or minor (B) for high school graduates with beginner, intermediate, or advanced language skills. For students with beginner level, 4 hours of additional training per week are offered free of charge throughout the first year. The program includes courses, seminars, and practical work in the fields of French linguistics and literature, and from the 4th semester onwards, optional courses (in translation, stylistics, cross-disciplinary literary studies, etc.). Students have the opportunity to spend a semester or a year at one of the many French Erasmus+ partner universities and participate in numerous cultural events (the Goncourt literary jury, translation competitions, etc.).
A degree in French language and literature opens up numerous career opportunities, as France is one of the largest foreign investors in Romania and Francophone culture is omnipresent in our country; French is also the second most taught foreign language in the Romanian education system. Graduates are prepared for a variety of professional fields, which they can explore in their second year during their professional and/or teaching internship: teaching French, literary translation and editing, cultural mediation, literary criticism, professional communication, etc. Graduates can enhance their skills through master’s studies in the programs Literature and Civilization – Intercultural Dialogue in the Francophone Space, Multilingual and Multicultural Communication, or Current Trends in Linguistics.
Italian Language and Literature
This specialization opens the doors to the refined world of Italian culture, offering comprehensive training in language, literature, civilization, and art. Students benefit from courses taught by tenured professors, visiting foreign professors, and Italian lecturers, as well as scholarship programs at renowned universities in Italy and professional internships in cultural, artistic, and educational institutions. The program develops advanced language skills and critical and creative thinking, preparing graduates for careers in education, translation, research, communication, publishing, cultural consulting, and media.

The academic experience is complemented by a rich extracurricular life: translation circles and competitions, collaborations with cultural magazines, film screenings and performances organized by the Italian Cultural Institute in Bucharest and the Italian Cultural Center, theatrical activities, and participation in major cultural events.

Spanish Language and Literature
The Spanish Language and Literature bachelor’s program offers the study of Spanish, the most widely spoken Romance language, in both specialization A and B. It prepares students not only for teaching careers in pre-university and university education, but also for careers as translators, researchers, editors, communication specialists, secretaries, documentalists, cultural mediators, publishers, and language consultants.
The program is open to high school graduates with beginner, intermediate, or advanced language skills. For students with beginner level, 4 hours of additional training per week are offered free of charge throughout the first year.
The subjects studied include courses in Spanish and Latin American language, culture, and literature.
The Spanish lecturer is involved, along with other members of the Spanish department, in the following extracurricular activities: organizing the Christmas Carol Festival in Romance languages, a short film competition, a literary translation competition from Spanish into Romanian, and Spanish film screenings.
Portuguese language and literature
Portuguese is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, spoken by over 250 million people in the nine countries where it is the official language: Portugal, Brazil, Mozambique, Angola, Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, and East Timor. It is also a working language in many international institutions and organizations, such as the European Parliament, the European Commission, the European Court of Justice, and the African Union. At the same time, Portuguese is a language of great cultural prestige, thanks to Portuguese authors and writers who express themselves in Portuguese – José Saramago, Fernando Pessoa, Jorge Amado, Mia Couto, José Eduardo Agualusa – whose works enjoy global recognition.
The Portuguese Language and Literature A bachelor’s program trains specialists capable of integrating into international professional and cultural environments by acquiring advanced knowledge of the Portuguese language, cultures, and literature. The program has a strong linguistic and literary component, which allows students to come into contact with different varieties of the language, particularly European and Brazilian Portuguese. Specialized languages are also studied, such as legal Portuguese and economic Portuguese, which are necessary tools for careers in international business or translation.

The Camões Institute in Lisbon supports a native lecturer position at UBB and actively supports the Portuguese Language Center by constantly updating its book collection and organizing cultural events.
